Enrichment of Low-Level Tritium in Groundwater via an Electrolysis Process for Liquid Scintillation Counting Applications

Tritium levels in the groundwater of arid regions are very low; most cases, these low tritium cannot be detected using a conventional liquid scintillation counter (LSC). To measure activity concentration, low-level needs to enriched by known factor so that can detect it. An electrolysis process with electrolytic cells was designed and fabricated our laboratory following International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) instructions. Nine spiked samples quantity were enriched, concentration measured counter. The water exhibits comparable level samples, albeit some degree uncertainty. A correlation drawn among activity, enrichment factor, required time for procedure. This study confirmed an approximately ten- fortyfold initial could achieved cells. simple design fabrication controlling various parameters make it affordable LSC.
